I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses... and... I love being one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
That statement will convince many that I am thus poorly educated and further that I am not much of a deep thinker... but they would be wrong.
The truth is that there are a great deal of lies and misconceptions about Jehovah's Witnesses.
Today, I read a blog (you can find it here: http://towards-the-unknown.blogspot.com/2009/03/religion.html) wherein the blogger said Witnesses had come to her door and she did not answer, but that she wished she had- because she wants to give Witnesses a piece of her mind about thier erroneous religion. I am interested to know what she has to say and, specifically, which errors she takes issue with. So I am posting an invitation on her blog to post her thoughts to my blog. If she decides to do so (and I really hope she does) it will no doubt be interesting.

Jehovah's Witnesses are a religious group developed by Joseph Rutherford. He took over as president of the Witness legal body, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, from a man called Charles Russell.
ReplyDeleteRussell was heavily influenced by the Adventists and believed and preached that the last days had started in 1799, that Christ has returned invisibly in 1874 and that the elect would go to heaven in 1878. He taught that the year 1914 would be the end of the gentile times and by extension, the end of the last days, thus ushering in Armageddon.
Absolutely all of his prophecies failed.
Rutherford taught that the year 1925 was more solidly based in scripture that 1914. He preached, printed publications and started an 'advertising campaign' around the prophecy that by 1925 paradise would be on earth, that millions then living would never die and that the 'ancient worthies', including Moses, Abraham and Isaac would be resurrected back to earth. He was so convinced of this that his California mansion's deeds were made out to these 'ancient worthies'.
Of course, 1925 came and went, millions then living did die and eventually his mansion in California was sold off. Another false prophet.
Both Russell and Rutherford had a keen interest in pyramidology; they both travelled to Egypt and measured the corridors etc of the Great Pyramid of Giza. These measurements went into Russell's books 'Studies in the Scriptures' complete with his pyramid-laden 'Divine Plan of the Ages'.
By 1928, however, Rutherford had denounced Russell's pyramid measuring as being demonic, which it was; pyramidology and numerology are both steeped in the occult. Thus, many of the prophetic beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses are founded and established on the occult.
Jesus Christ said that the only way to have life, including eternal life, was to eat his flesh and drink his blood. Many were stumbled at this and left off following him. Peter, however, asked "to whom else can we go?" He recognised that Jesus alone had everlasting life.
Jehovah's Witnesses teach that a person does not have to eat Christ's flesh and drink his blood to have life. In fact, the strongly discourage anyone from doing so. Therefore, at the annual celebration of Christ's death 99.7% of Jehovah's Witnesses in attendance will, when presented with the value of Christ's sacrifice on their behalf and the means to get eternal life, refuse to partake. They, in effect, deny the value of Christ's sacrifice for them.
Paul said;
1 Cor 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also handed on to YOU, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was going to be handed over took a loaf 24 and, after giving thanks, he broke it and said: “This means my body which is in YOUR behalf. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” 25 He did likewise respecting the cup also, after he had the evening meal, saying: “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood. Keep doing this, as often as YOU drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as YOU eat this loaf and drink this cup, YOU keep proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives.
We've to keep doing this until Christ returns. There is no provision in those verses for us to decide we will not eat the bread or the wine. We must do it.
Also, if Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Christ returned in 1914 (note: this date was changed from 1874 to 1914 in the year 1943; so for 70 Jehovah's Witnesses were taught a falsehood about Christ's return, hence their religion cannot, by definition, be called 'the truth'), why do they still celebrate the memorial?
Lastly, Jehovah's Witnesses claim that their religion alone is the true religion. They go so far as to call their organisation 'the truth'.
However, Jesus said that HE was the truth and that God's Word was the truth. Jesus did not point to an organisation or group of people and say they were the the truth.
Serious stuff. And that's not even scratching the surface. Other issues with the Jehovah's Witness religion;
- doctrine of the 'generation'
- doctrine of organ transplants
- relationship with the United Nations
- choosing to not use Bible or sing songs in the Kingdom Halls in Mexico
- using the erroneous date 607
- adding words like [other] to the inspired text of the Bible
- teaching that Jesus in Michael the Archangel
- expecting absolute obedience to the Governing Body
- teaching that Jesus is just a created servant of God
You are very confused Mark... and that is all I am going to say to you about this. You have clearly not taken any time to verify what, you claim here, are facts.
ReplyDeleteBut that is your perogative.
This offer however was to a specific person- and that person is not you.
Too bad she didn't respond my dear little sister.
ReplyDeleteThey think we are brain-washed but the various goverements have them in darkness because thay cannot be bothered to look for the lies.
Best wishes
